The All Stars Track and Field team finished off a fantastic year with an end of season family BBQ and awards night at our regular practice field. Athletes were treated to fun games, a visit from Halton Police with their Police Car, a face painter, magic tricks and even circus skills and juggling!

DJ Nate, one of our athletes, did a stellar job with music and announcements.

The delicious burgers and hot dogs were cooked by our very own Coach Andy and Coach Gerry.

Our Head Coach Rob announced that in the 3 track meets we attended this season, the All Stars won a whopping 225 top places (1st, 2nd and 3rd).  As the youngest track team in our area, only in our second year and with a lower average age than our competing teams, this is an incredible achievement! Each athlete received an award for their personal achievement this summer – and a beautiful medal inscribed on the back with Burlington All Stars 2016.

Our All Stars Athletes of the Year 2016 were announced – congratulations go to Mert Gulec and to Amanda Abraham for their great performances and their outstanding dedication and attitude to training and meets.

We finished off the night with some dancing and karaoke – and of course a final All Stars cheer.

Thank you to all our wonderful coaches and volunteers (Coaches Rob, Helen, Jan, Karen, Jenn, Lucy, Catherine, Mary-Ann, Linda, Gerry, Andy, Mehmet and Junior Coaches Scott and Matt).

See you all next year!

Athletes and coaches who attended the July 2016 Brantford Track Meet and Provincial Qualifiers had an excellent day! Rocking their new bright yellow team shirts with the All Stars logo on the back, the team did Burlington proud.

Our All Stars athletes all worked so hard and it paid off – with 83 placements in the top three (1st, second or third place). We had enthusiastic competitors in the 100m, 200m and 400m track events – and in Javelin, Shot Put, Running Long Jump and Standing Long Jump for the field events.

Results from this meet will determine which athletes from the Wildebeest conference will move on to represent South Central division at the Provincials in 2017.

Did you know that In Special Olympics competitions, athletes of all ability levels are able to participate, and every athlete is recognized for his or her performance? Through a process called divisioning, Special Olympics competitions are structured so that athletes compete with other athletes of similar gender, age and ability in equitable divisions. This makes for exciting competitions!

The opening ceremony at Brantford was a wonderful celebration with a town crier officially getting things off to an exciting start – and athletes were even treated to a zumba group warm up!

Lunch – always one of the highlights of a track meet – was subs and treats as athletes, coaches and parents all happily chatted about the days events under the shade of our Burlington canopies.

Back to Monday night practices to prepare for the next meet!
